Snowflake our Elf on the Shelf

Last night we started the Elf of the Shelf tradition thanks to a good friend introducing it to us. We read the book, explained the rules(about 5 times) and not so quickly named our Elf. The book says quickly name him...with Rylee there is not much that is quick except eating junk. So after much thinking she decided on Snowflake. We explained we would get the same elf next year so this name is in stone. She was ok with it so Snowflake is now our house Elf. For those of you who don't know about Elf on the Shelf, well its a pretty cute thing if your kid allows it to be. They are not allowed to touch the elf only talk to or he will lose his magic. He travels to Santa each night to let Santa know if the kids were good or bad and he returns in a new spot in the morning. Its kindof like a game for the kids to find them when they wake up. On Christmas eve he leaves for good only to return next Christmas. So let me humor you with last night events of how our Elf on the Shelf started.....

First night-Read book, went over details like I said about 5 times. Only to be bombarded with more questions. For instant, "I thought it was real? This looks fake." "Where are his feet" "How does he get out of the house to see Santa" "Will he come in my room?" So for those of you who know Rylee she has to know the who, what, when, where and whys of EVERYTHING. She doesn't even let the toothfairy come see her, afraid of it being in her room. So anyways bedtime comes and she wants me to read the book again. No problem we read book again. Now she scared, doesn't want Snowflake to come in her room, ok no problem he heard you and won't. I go to check on her 2hrs later and shes awake watching the door to make sure Snowflake doesn't come in her room...great so I talked to her and we decided Snowflake would come in my room for the night. Then at 5:30am she comes in my room twice asking where the elf is. Oh lord...this is not working out the way its sopposed to. So I put up Snowflake and when she gets up she asks where he is and is sad I put him up. So we are going to try tonight again and see how it goes. Don't want this Snowflake elf to scare her where she doesn't sleep.

Oh and forget the tricks you can make your elf do...who knows how much that would freak my poor child out. I suppose this year will be a "trial run" year and maybe next year he can have a little fun while eveyone is sleeping.
